It reveals threshold dynamics and tipping points where minimal changes in disease prevalence can lead to substantial shifts in group behavior regarding NPIs. The researchers found that individuals are slow to adopt new protective behaviors until the perceived risk becomes overwhelmingly high, at which point the population collectively shifts.

Moreover, once NPIs are embraced, there's often a reluctance to abandon them, reflecting the "stickiness" of social conformity. The model demonstrates that minor variations in factors such as NPI effectiveness and transmission rates can significantly alter infection patterns, illuminating the intricate relationship between social norms and disease spread, which is essential for policymaking during health crises.
